We called Reproductive Associates of Delaware to see if we were even "the type" of couple that would need to see a specialist to have a baby......turns out, we were. We had heard that it typically takes months to be seen, however, we called and had an appointment within 2 weeks! Andy and I were very excited and eager with the thought in our head that they would be able to look at me at our first appointment and "fix us!"
Our first appointment was on August 7, 2012 with the medical director. He asked Andy and I a ton of questions about our health, our sex life and my menstrual cycle, all of which did not sound like anything was abnormal. He did however explain that about 85% of women live with a disease called endometriosis and most never even know they have it; however, this is one of the most common causes of infertility. I sat there thinking "yeah, yeah, moving on, I don't have any of those symptoms so I don't have the disease." He explained that he thought it sounded like I COULD have a minor case of "endo" because I did say I had abnormal cycles with some cramping and clotting. He also explained that I could have blocked fallopian tubes which would prohibit the egg from traveling from the ovary and successfully meet up with a sperm friend! Denial- I still thought my cycles were normal, just did not like to come at the same time each month....I had no other reason to think I was not healthy.
After he was done speaking to us, he told us to have a seat in the waiting room and that the coordinator would call us back once his "work up" was made. A few minutes later we were called into an office and given our work up checklist of procedures they wanted Andy and I to get done to start trying to help us have a baby!
